How to Prepare for Life After University 💡
Need help navigating everything from visas and arrival prep to payments, contracts, wellbeing, and life in your new Yugo home? Whether you’re getting ready for your first big move or settling in for another year abroad, you’ll find straightforward answers, practical tips, and the support you need to feel confident every step of the way.
We recommend booking as early as possible.
Popular locations and room types (especially studios or ensuites) can sell out quickly.
Booking with Yugo takes five steps: accept your university place, apply for your visa, choose your Yugo residence, arrange a guarantor if needed, and move in. Here's what to expect at each step:
Accept Your University Place: Your journey begins by securing your university offer. Choose where and what you study wisely, as these decisions will shape your education. Apply to your chosen universities, achieve the required grades and accept your offer. The next step is finding the perfect student accommodation.
Apply for Your Visa: If you're planning to study abroad, obtaining your visa is crucial for travel. Start the process early, as it can take time. For assistance, contact your local embassy or check online resources for more information.
Choose your Yugo Residence: Once you know your university and location, visit the Yugo website to explore our accommodation options. Simply click ‘Book Now,’ complete your application and pay your deposit to secure your home for the academic year.
Arrange a Guarantor if Needed: With Yugo, you can pay your rent in full or through instalments. If you choose instalments, a qualified guarantor may be required. There's no need to worry! If you don’t have one, we work with trusted guarantor partners — like Housing Hand in the UK and equivalent services in other countries — to support your application where possible.
Move In: With your accommodation booked and university place accepted, it’s time to move in! Our friendly teams will coordinate your move-in date, time and parking arrangements. For arrivals outside office hours, inform the team in advance.
Typically, you will need:
Some properties may require additional documents depending on your booking.
Yes, you can book your room with either a conditional or unconditional offer.
If you only have a conditional offer, you can still secure your room now. You will just need to provide your final confirmed offer before moving in.
Yes, you may be able to cancel your booking, but you'll need to provide proof and terms vary. Please check the cancellation policy for your specific booking, or contact our residence team, who can talk you through the options.
Most Yugo properties offer a "No Visa, No Pay" policy: if your student visa application doesn't arrive in time, you can cancel your booking without penalty (terms and conditions apply). It means you can book your student accommodation early and with confidence, even before your visa is confirmed.
If you are not successfully awarded a visa to travel and study, then we can help. Firstly, we may be able to transfer you to another one of our residences around the globe if you are going to study elsewhere. If you are not going to study elsewhere or we do not have accommodation available in your new city/town of study, we will release you from your tenancy agreement provided the following criteria are met:
If your tenancy has commenced, you will remain liable for the rent payable under the tenancy agreement until receipt of the above. Find out more here
Not necessarily.
Most properties offer flexible payment options, including:
Full details will be provided during the booking process.
Not always. Whether you need a guarantor depends on how you pay: if you pay all your rent in a single payment before check-in, you won't need one. If you pay monthly, a guarantor is usually required.
A guarantor is someone aged 18 or over who agrees to pay your rent if you're unable to, for example, a parent, a guardian or a close relative. If you ever struggle to meet a monthly payment, speak to your support team first: Yugo will only contact your guarantor as a last resort, if the terms of your tenancy can't be met.
In the majority of our properties, guarantors must be UK based with at least one years occupation within in the UK and over 18 years old.
For a full list of requirements, please see our FAQs here. Some of our properties may accept international based guarantors - if you are unsure, you can always reach out to our on-site team via WhatsApp, Email or enquiry form to find out more!
It depends on the residence and availability when you book.
If you'd like to live with a friend, tell the accommodation team as early as possible and they'll do their best to place you together. Requests are handled case by case, especially during busy booking periods, so it's always worth getting in touch early to make a specific request.
Once you book, you’ll have access to:
We aim to make your transition as smooth as possible.
Yes, most international students will need a student visa to study in the UK. Since the UK left the EU, anyone arriving after 31st December 2020 is required to have a valid student visa. Apply for Student Visa here, or read our Student Visa Guide.
