Find out how much you need to live the student life in London with our complete cost of living guide.
Feel fully confident exploring London with safety tips and practical advice.
Learn how to navigate London like a local with our handy transport guide.
You'll find students living all over London, but the biggest populations are in central areas like Bloomsbury, King's Cross and Farringdon, which hold close ties to the city's leading universities. East London is another hotspot, with the likes of Shoreditch, Whitechapel and Stratford proving popular with students.
London is said to have more international students than any city in the world, so you won't find a better place to study abroad! When you consider its wealth of first-class universities, incredible cultural diversity, thriving jobs market and near-infinite range of things to do, it's easy to see why.
It's no secret that London is an expensive place to live, but costs vary considerably depending on where and how you choose to live. At the lower end of the scale, you may be able to get by with around £1,500 per month, but bigger spenders will likely want to budget at least £2,500 to cover monthly living costs.
Accommodation costs vary significantly depending on the area and amenities, with the rule of thumb being that the more central the location, the more expensive the price. It's hard to estimate precise costs, but as a rough estimate, private rents for student accommodation in London typically range from £1,500–£2,000 per month.
Countless attractions in London offer discounted rates to students — there's the London Eye, the London Dungeon, Madame Tussauds and the Tower of London, to name just a few. Platforms like UNiDAYS and Student Beans unlock additional discounts at hundreds of shops, restaurants and leisure destinations throughout the city.
