Best international universities for Spanish students

From making lifelong friends, to learning a new language and experiencing different cultures, studying abroad can be life-changing. But, with thousands of universities across the world to choose from, deciding on the right one for you can be overwhelming, to say the least.

Thankfully, we’ve done the research, so you don’t have to. Here are the best and most searched-for international universities for Spanish students – including those in the UK, US, and Australia.


Imperial College London

Situated in the heart of London, Imperial College London is one of the world’s most international universities. More than 60% of its students come from outside the UK, with 20% coming from other European countries. And, with its research encompassing academic peers in more than 130 countries, it’s also regarded as the UK university with the most international outlook.

If STEM is your thing, then this is the place for you. Imperial College London is consistently ranked among the best universities in the world for science, technology, and engineering, as well as medicine and business.

What about accommodation? Florida State University  

Florida is hugely popular with international students, and for good reason. Tuition rates and the cost of living are relatively low, there’s a growing job market, and there are plenty of internship opportunities available. Oh, and then there’s the warm weather and sunny beaches - it’s not called the Sunshine State for nothing!

Florida State University is among U.S. News & World Report's top-ranked public universities, and boasts the highest amount of National Science Foundation research funding in the state. In the 1950s the university added business, journalism, and nursing departments, and most recently built a new college of medicine. It also has ‘study-abroad’ centres in London, Florence, Valencia, and Panama.

Of its 39,831 students, 6% are international, coming from over 130 countries. All new international students are enrolled on the university’s New International Student Orientation. Here, you’re able to learn all about campus resources, make new friends and get advice on health, safety, funding, and living in the local area.

University of Melbourne

Home to more than 140 cultures, Melbourne is a melting pot known for its incredible diversity. It’s also considered one of the safest and friendliest cities in the world, making it an ideal city for students to live in.

With its reputation for research performance and teaching excellence, the University of Melbourne is consistently ranked among the leading universities in the world and number one in Australia.

The university has a distinctly international focus, with 45% of its student base coming from outside of Australia. It’s also aligned to the top universities around the world, and is ranked eighth worldwide for graduate employability.

Providing students with more than just structured learning, the university’s main Parkville campus offers an array of cultural activities including theatre, comedy film, and public lectures. There’s also a 25-metre heated indoor pool, athletics track, and sports field. And, the campus is close to the city’s transport network, cafés, restaurants and shops - so exploring the city is easy.

Dublin City University

Located in the Glasnevin-Drumcondra region of north Dublin, Dublin City University has more than 19,000 students from 135 countries enrolled across five faculties – science and health, business, computing and engineering, humanities and social sciences, and education.

Established in the 1980s, Dublin City University has been rated 59th globally in The Times Higher Young University rankings for 2024, and number one in Ireland. With the youngest population in Europe, it’s not just the university that’s considered youthful. One-third of Dublin’s population is aged 25 years and under, giving the city a vibrant and dynamic vibe like no other.

The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees of the highest international quality with opportunities in technology, engineering, business, communications, humanities, science and health. It also offers international scholarship schemes to academically strong undergraduate and postgraduate international students.

Cambridge University

As one of the oldest and most distinguished universities in the world, Cambridge University has a diverse international community, welcoming students from across the globe. A whopping 41% of its full-time students are from outside the UK, representing around 140 countries. In addition, the university’s International Summer Schools offers 150 courses to students from more than 50 countries.

The university is split into six schools: Arts and Humanities, Biological Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Humanities and Social Sciences, Physical Sciences and Technology. The university has no less than 100 libraries, its own museums and art galleries, and extensive sports facilities – including a sports centre, 25-metre indoor pool, several courts and pitches, and even an ice rink.

Providing specialist support to students who’ve come from overseas, the International Student Office offers visa advice and practical guidance on living and studying in Cambridge from an international perspective.

Arizona State University

Arizona State University is extremely popular with international students – as demonstrated by its many accolades. For six years, the university has been named the number one public university for hosting international students by the Institute of International Education’s Open Doors Report.

International students make up more than 15% of its total student population. Students come from 157 countries around the world, representing a host of cultures, backgrounds and religions.

Arizona State University prides itself on delivering a high-quality, globally-minded education to international students, backed by comprehensive student support through its International Students and Scholars Centre. As well as helping international students to adjust to the culture shift they might experience when coming to the US, the centre supports with immigration and other compliances, tax information, and employment.

University of Bristol
